INDIA, Chennai: Three persons were arrested Friday on the charge of extorting money from street vendors in and around Koyambedu market by floating a fake trade union for tiny traders.
This followed a complaint from vendors of Koyambedu market stating that a few persons, sporting Khaki uniform with a name badge were indulging in extortion.
Acting on the complaint the trio, S Anbu (55), C Manoharan (42), G Ganesan (70) were caught red handed while taking money from the vendors. On enquiry, it was found the three were engaged in extortion for the last 10 years by printing receipts in the name of a bogus union. The gang was collecting `50 per shop daily and `500 during festive seasons.
